Itunes and Xbox

I recently bought another xbox, sold my old one last year. With my last one i did a few "customizations" to it, but this one is stock.

I dont remember ever having problems burning music onto cds, and then ripping them onto the xbox. Now, i try it with this one, and it says to make sure its a dvd, audio cd, etc etc.

I burned 5 disks, I used itunes and burned them as a audio cd, works on both my ibook, and G5. Even works on a portable cd player than only reads audio cds, not mp3s.

Im a little lost and was wondering if any one here has had this problem before, or know what im doing wrong.

You could never rip a burnt CD to the xbox without 3rd party software.

it depends on the type of drive the xbox has. i have one that's a thomson, which is horrible at playing games, but i can rip just about anything to it. Then i have a newer samsung drive that plays games great, but i can only rip official retail cds to it.

phillips are the best drives for ripping things to them, but they are a bit unstable with reading the info off the dvd games- hence the reason why you get DDE's (dirty disc errors).

Is this a anti-piracy "feature?" Or is it due to some idiosyncrasy in the way it works? Is there something about a burnt disc that is a dead giveaway, even if it is a copy of a retail disc? I suppose maybe what the unburnt portion looks like?

a little of both. microsoft did it as an anti-piracy measure, but there was a faulty batch of original xbox's that shipped with Thomson drives and their lasers were relatively weak. So they switched manufactors of the drives and now some drives can rip burned cds, and some can't. For the most part, the new drives i.e. Samsung (drive with the holes in it) can't play ripped music, while some of the Phillips and the original Thomson ones can.

thanks for the help, my last xbox had a samsung in it, and it could rip music cds. ive been told i need a version B samsung drive or one of the new LG drives.

Do you know of a way i can trick it to think that its a music cd that i bought from a store?
