iTunes backup asking for password.

Apple have replaced my phone and I am trying to restore a back up but it says I need a password the backup is not encrypted, so should't be password protected. I'm at my wits end. I've tried every password I've ever used and I'm getting nothing. Can anyone suggest anything.

If your backup needs a password it is encrypted with that password. You clicked the encrypt iTunes backup button in iTunes and now you need that password or your backup is unusable. There's no way around it.
