I'm getting a new 15" AlPB soon and of course I need to backup all my work off of my 12"...however I'm not sure how to backup iTunes correctly. As I won't have the 12" and the 15" at the same time, I can't do a simple Firewire transfer, and whenever I try to copy the iTunes folder across to my PC (whether by sudo cp or by the Finder SMB, or even FTP) Windows craps out, especially on some characters (?, ", *, [ to name a few).
I have about 32gig of mp3s in iTunes. I have a 40GB iPod and I was wondering whether it is possible to sync the iPod properly (so I can still play music) and then when I get my 15", take the mp3s off, keeping the playcounts, playlists and ratings? I think there's an XML file I have to backup as well but my main concern is going from the iPod to a new system. Apple has security measures to ensure this doesn't happen -- but is there a program that makes this possible, and keeps all the iTunes information as well?
Thanks in advance for your help.
