Which iTunes card should I buy to add apps to my iPad in Canada? I've been told that the iTunes music card can't be used. I then heard that the iTunes gift card now works in this country. Incredible how difficult it is to get good info on the iPad outside of these forums.

Has anyone tried to add apps with an iTunes card in Canada?

I do not want to use my credit card for this, nor do I want to invest a good amount of money on a card that could be useless.

Thks for your help

Who told me?

The bleeping morons at Future Shop. As for Staples and a MAC store to remain nameless, they told me to go to the phone cie with which I'd signed up with for the G3 data plan AFTER I told them I was waiting for the Wi-Fi only model. Frustrating!

Have YOU add apps with the iTunes music card? Don't think so. With the iTunes gift card? Maybe ... you tell me.

Thks

Well if it helps I've used an iTunes gift card to buy iPad apps. I wasn't aware there was any differentiation between 'iTunes gift cards' (general) and 'iTunes music cards' but I have seen 'iTunes app cards'. I also recall looking at the back of the cards and noting they both looked like they just added value to your iTunes account that you could use for anything.

But I may be wrong :)

Quick google and I found this which may or may not help:

I just phoned Apple and for some stupid reason, you cannot use your iTunes card to buy apps if you are in Canada. It only works for the music... perhaps the videos and games too, I'm not sure, but I do know it doesn't work for apps. You can only use your credit card in your account. ugh. If you don't want to use your credit card, a freind of mine said that he bought a "pre-paid" credit card that worked fine for him. You just buy it like a gift card or pay as you go phone card at many stores. I think he said he purchase his at a Safeway. I hope this helps because I wasted money on another card thinking that you needed a separate card for the App store, and I'd hate for anyone to go through the pain of the ordeal like I did. Apple should make it WAY more clear on all their websites that this is the way it is.

I'm not sure if that's changed post-iPad release, it was dated 4 January 2010.

Edit: I found another mention that this is due to some Canadian law which won't allow you to purchase apps using gift cards. That sounds silly but I suppose it might be the case. An option to consider might be to use US gift cards to buy apps from the US store.

As far as I can remember, I never was successful in buying apps via iTunes gift card from Canada. It just can't be done. Stupid, but true.

A friend of mine is going down to the US as we speak, gave her $100 so she can pick me up a US iTunes card so I can get me some apps - from the US store that is - (then I'm on a strict budget per month, otherwise i'll go broke :p).

its because of a Canadian Law

You cannot buy apps with an itunes card in Canada. It has to do with a law in Canada that only allows purchases of software online via a credit card.

Up until about a week ago you could not use Itunes cards purchased in Canada to buy apps in the Canadian Itunes App Store.

They now allow this. I purchased 4X$15 Itunes cards at Costco Monday and was able to buy apps for my Ipad.

Don't know why they changed it, just glad they did.

Finally

Very pleased with this change to the store. :) Didn't like having to use my card whenever I wanted an app. Wonder if it's only for iPad apps or all of them? Only tried it on iPad.

It works for all apps, my daughter used an itunes card she got at Xmas to buy a few for her Touch.

I was really surprised to buy an app today and notice that my balance decreased (as opposed to it staying the same and billing my credit card. I'd been sitting on $20-something for a while now).

Would love to see some site/other media outlet actually confirm with Apple that they've resolved the issue and this isn't just some sort of glitch/oversight.

Look on the app store. If it shows a gift card balance then it should use it. As for me, I had a gift card on my iphone since April. I forgot about it till yesterday when I found out that the app store had my card balance (Never showed this until late may) So I decided to to try it and bought a .99$ app. I also had a my dads credit card on the account so I was kinda worried (my dad freaks about me charging his card) My balance was $25 before and went to down. Dont know if it was exactly .99$ since I dont know if there is any taxes. But the balance DID go down. So unless it charged both cards then im good.
