Not enough info to help. Type of computer? Any error messages?

iTunes does not detect iPhone

I'm also having the same issue...
I've tried the iPhone with WIN XP SP2 and WIN Vista 32bit.
When the iPhone is connected I get a prompt indicating a camera device has been found - i'm able to go into and view pics i've taken on my iPhone.
When I launch iTunes - iPhone is not detected.

What i've done so far:

-Rested PC several times
-Restarted iTunes several times
-Tested iTunes 7.4 to 7.6
-Restarted both iPod and iPhone Application in services of windows
-Clean installed iTunes several times
-Completed all windows updates
-Ran diagnostics in iTunes and confirmed iPhone was found however when I continued on with the process of syncing contacts etc... I got a "Windows stopped responding" message and iTunes closed.

After all the above steps - I'm still having the same issue...

Any suggestions or assistance would be greatly appreciated.

I had the same problem using Windows XP SP3. I successfully resolved it by updating the drivers for the iphone, but I had to do it using the following procedure.

1. Right-click on "My Computer" in the "Start" menu and choose "Manage"
2. Click on "Device Manager" and locate the iphone device. In the above example where the iphone is connecting as a camera, you'll probably find the iphone under "imaging devices". It may also be listed as a USB device.
3. Right-click on the iphone device and choose "Update Driver"
4. When the Updating Hardware wizard starts, choose "Update from a list or specific location" rather than the default "Install the software automatically" .
5. Choose to include the following location in your driver search "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers" - browse to the location to make sure it exists.
6. Let the update run...it takes a little while, but sure enough, after restarting the PC and running itunes...there was my iphone. After updating the iphone to 2.2, everything worked perfectly. Imagine that.

Dude! I registered with this forum just to thank you. Upgrading to iPhone 3.0 required an iTunes upgrade and I've spent the last three hours trying to figure out why my phone wasn't recognized.

Nothing similar to your technique anywhere, but yours is the only method that worked. Mucho muchos to ryebread!
