I remember reading an article about hosting all of your songs on an external harddrive and then leaving a few on your computer so you don't have to have your computer hooked up to the hard drive to listen. It said something about setting up a smart playlist?? Can someone help me with this? I think I'm confused. Thanks,

Easy

In your I Tunes prefs, under the advanced tab, change the folder to point to a folder on your new hard drive. That's it. Now your I-Tunes Library defaults to that new folder.
The songs that were in your old folder may be added via the File/ add to library command.

Ok

That too is handled in preferences under the "general" tab. Uncheck the "copy files to I-Tunes" box. By doing this you are telling I-Tunes to play the file(s) from whatever folder (on whichever drive) that they are in instead of copying them all to the I-Tunes Library.
