Itunes films far to expensive to buy

I am not, repeat not a computer buff.
I travel a great deal long haul, and as a new Ipad owner I am impressed with it so far, great apps. But I wanted to buy a few films to watch on long haul flights.
After checking the Itunes shop I was amazed at the high prices being charged for old films,Superman Returns, I know..., but can buy this for £2.99 in any shop in the Uk these days, same for a few others I checked so to be asked by Itunes for £6.99 is a bit of a rip off, after checking a few ,more it seems standard practice, so to say I have an Ipad I have to shell out over the odds to purchase films, and most cds in fact, Itunes should monitor and be seen to be competitive on prices

So is it possible to put my own paid for dvd films onto my Ipad, my local Apple shop says no.
So guys who knows how to do this, please a simple click and let the program do it all option.

I agree with you completely i got an Ipad for xmas and the price of the films surprises me somewhat! Its probably all down to the Movie studios mind! but never mind.

I am still learning and trying to find tools myself but if you try and get a standard DVD ripper (if someone knows a good one let me know too cos im still on the hunt) and then a tool called handbrake....u shud be able to convert the dvd you ripped into the IPAD Format then, then its a simple add it to itunes and away you go.

How are you finding the pad so far?

Following on from that i just noticed in Handbrake there is an option to rip the DVD/ VIDEO_TS Folder so you should be able to rip and convert your dvds straight through that!!! no middle tool required.

Most folks around here use Handbrake in combination with VLC. VLC provides the DVD decoding keys and Handbrake handles the encoding.

Many folks also use a dedicated DVD ripper to get the DVD onto a hard drive and then use Handbrake on the hard drive image. If you do it this way, you can let your computer run Handbrake overnight or when you're at work. Mac DVD rippers include MacTheRipper and others. I personally use a PC to rip using DVDFab.

The website, iphone4idiots.com tells you how to download movies to your Ipad for free, I haven't tried it but you'll have to register in order to do so; I'm not sure if this will work for you, but just wanted to share it. Good luck!!

Use Handbrake like others have said and also use the program called Subler to add artwork, cast information, and all other information about the DVD you bought that you are ripping. The combination of the two programs makes it easy to make good backups of DVDs that you purchased and make them viewable on the iPad. After using the combination of these two programs, the movie will look just like if you bought it from iTunes.

WOW... Either they have to say that in order to get you to purchase movies in iTunes, or they have no complete knowledge about the
product they're selling! I really hope for them they have to say that, if not... They should educate themselves (by coming on forums like
this one for example).

As an answer to the question, and as said before, HandBrake will do everything you wish in a simple click-and-go kind of way using a
single application (+VLC in the background). Pop you DVD in the computer, in HandBrake choose the VIDEO_TS folder on that disc,
choose the correct title, choose your settings (iPad preset should be fine) and GO.
As ftaok mentioned, you could rip to your harddrive first using MacTheRipper for example and then add a couple of movies to the queue in
HandBrake so you can convert them overnight. This is a good tip if you need/want to do multiple movies.

Besides that, there's a couple of posts in this iPad forum, as well as other parts of the forums, where you can get extra information about
certain settings and such. Oh, and on handbrake.fr as well, on their forum.
