I've been kinda bummed that Toyota and Apple haven’t gotten together to get the Prius up and running with iPod integration. I mean it is one of the most technologically sophisticated cars in the industry and his one heck of a display to play music on. So I figured if Toyota wouldn't do it I would. :D What do you guys think of the interface? Crappy? OK? Needs work?

This is the base screen for iTunes for Prius. It displays your iPod playlists on the right, the contents on the left, and what's playing below.

The interface of the thing is relatively straightforward. Since we are talking about navigating while driving you don't want a small interface such as what you would use with a mouse. So navigating the playlists and tracks is done through the top and bottom half of the screen.
If you hit the top half of the screen it moves up the playlist. If you hit the bottom it moves down. Same with tracks. Also tap and holding scrolls the screen. When you have the Playlist you want to play selected hit the play button below. Hitting the bottom half of the play button (That is smaller.) brings you back to the Prius main screen.
Alternately if you find the playlist you want and scroll to the song you want hitting play starts the song in the playlist selected. Hitting the cover art maximizes the now playing screen...

The now playing screen displays the current track playing and how many are left in the playlist. Also the cover art, title, album, and artist. The two buttons are obviously next and previous track but also functions as fast forward and reverse buttons by holding down the button instead of just tapping it. Also you can alter your star rating by tapping on it and holding your finger down on the star you want to change it to.

Thoughts?

that'd be pretty cool, but IMO, too distracting for the road. People would be paying attention to the little screen instead of paying attention to the road.

it's a cool idea, maybe if they wrote in a little thing where it can only be accessed (messed with) by touch screen if the car is at a dead stop or going under 15 MPH...

I WANT ONE FOR MY BIKE! :)

I'm sure they're thinking of things like this. Maybe next rev or 2. You should e-mail them to let them know you are interested. Couldn't hurt.
