I personally think that Apple would not do such a think as iTunes is one of the reasons to swap platforms, as is iMovie and hopefully soon iPicture (or similar)
Although they did say that they would support iPod on windows so who knows!

I really don't think that iTunes is quite enough leverage for someone to actually swap platforms.. i wish it were that easy.. i used to wonder why apple made quicktime for windows, but this is one thing that has gotten their name around.. the daily number of quicktime downloads is enormous! i think they do plan to put itunes on windows for the same reasons.. it will help to show that they are superior in not just video but audio as well.. and with the news on AAC, it seems there may be more to iTunes in the near that we see now. I'd bet on AAC not only being used with MPEG-4 and quicktime, but also in iTunes and the upgradeable iPod

Apple wouldn't dare do something like that! They have things like iTunes & iPod so that they have products u can not get with windoze. I think, if anything, that having these unique products all their own are selling tools rather than giving in to the masses.

I am a employee at Apple Computer and lately we have been hard at work on a windows version of iTunes2. The windows version is coming along quite nicely, as Steve has set a shipping date of January 7th. He is planning on announcing it at MWSF. Now we have also been hard at work trying to get the iPOD to work with windows, we have been having great success with it and you should expect to see the iPOD shipping with Windows/Mac iTunes ver.2.0.4 in January. Until next time......

I'm torn.
My feeling is that I'd prefer Apple to spend its time and resources on US, its dedicated community.
On the other hand, I think it's great so many Windoze users download Quick Time... and see that lovely apple every time they watch an MPEG. (Although, in my experience, QT5 doesn't run as smoothly on a PC and has those basic compatibility problems with AVIs and such -- none of which is a good advert for those who are already sceptical.)
On balance, I think it's better if Apple works on apps for us, and concentrates on the bugs in our systems, rather than having to sort them out on everyone elses as well...

my analogy has been this with the iPod, the Mac, and windows....
everyone knows apple likens their five percent market share with Mercedes-Benz and BMW, right?
so let's assume (easily) that our Macs is a BMW, and pc's are Ford Tauruses...no offense to anyone using a taurus, this is just an analogy...
if BMW makes some really sweet 19 inch racing rims that just kick a.ss for control on their M line, the owner of the taurus isn't going to say to himself, "You know what, BMW would be such a better company if they diluted their product and standardized their engineering to work with my taurus...in fact, those rims are gonna be the death of BMW because they don't fit on my 15 inch tires!"

Ok put it this way, i think that their is a 50 50 chance of apple doing something like that. You have to look at business. Apple has quick time for windows. Many pc users are happy with that. If Apple does make an interface for the iPod for the PC market, it will surely be a port of iTunes. anything less would dilute the 'experience' tha Jobs is selling with the iPod. Without the ability to catalog, manage, and play MP3s, the experience would become a hastle.

But, should Apple do this at all? Well, let's see, the iPod has gotten rave reviews from the media and the public, surpassing Apple sales projections (correct me if I'm wrong). As long as Apple can keep sales at or beyond production capacity, no reason to enter other markets. I believe it is advantagous for Apple to hold off on a port to the PC, given that the iPod's interface and form factor will be copied - just a mater of time - and at this point they can ride the wave they have created and focus resources on the next best thing, or they can focus resources on bringing the next best thing to the next worst platform. However, if Jobs creates a new buzz with a next digital device, even more PC users will see that Apple continues to innovate, come out with cool devices that WORK and are EASY TO USE, and may just switch over to the iMac or iBook. but if they can get Apple's cool functionality on their old, cheap, e-machines hardware, then why transition?

Lets give em' a version of iTunes that can only "manage" mp3's. It cannot rip! Call it the PC iPod bundle (with firewire PCI card of course) and sell it for $99. Then make tons of annoying messages saying
if you buy a Mac... you would get, this this and that feature...
hehe... That would actually be pretty cool... And another thing, for those of us who are forced to work in a Peecee inviorment make an enterable CD-key distributed with each and every Macintosh! unlocking all the other features
