I have a DJ friend who needs a Windoze program for his laptop that is like iTunes for one specific reason: THE SEARCH ENGINE. He has an IBM laptop and needs something that narrows songs down to an artist or album, etc.

He wants to have 8000 or so songs, and in itunes he marvels at the fact that he can punch in artist or song, and by typing each letter, it eliminates what he isnt looking for. Im trying to get him to switch to Mac, but he doesn't have the money. When he does get it, he swears hes getting a TiBook to DJ with.

With that said, I am wondering if there is anybody out there that is aware of a Windoze program that has that powerful of a search engine. It MUST be within the player app, so he can just play the song once he finds it. The windoze search command just sucks.

Thanks

It doesnt have to be some powerful DJ app (although it can be) The focus is strictly on the search engine

check out winamp 3. i havent used it much, but a friend of mine says its Library window is a lot like iTunes. i beleive it also has an option to make songs fade into each other. its also free

Thanks... but not quite what im looking for... :D

The problem with winamp is it doesnt have that search engine... plus it is too small

It is ok if it costs money, we just have to find something

have you actually checked it out tho? winamp 3 actually has a library window [DIFFERENT than playlist]. you might be right on the search thing, but i could swore it had that, i could be wrong tho. but if its not what your looking for its all good, i try.:)
check out NI Traktor DJ. its a really good DJing prgram, might be too much for what you want [opposite spectrum of winamp, hehe] but it may have what your looking for. just a suggestion.

Actually, WinAmp does have a built-in search engine, and it works pretty much the same way iTunes's search engine does. I think you hit alt+f to open the search window, and as you type in what you're looking for, the results popup. I could be wrong about the key commands, but I am positive that WinAmp has a built-in search engine.

use musicmatch or something , or even try windows media player 9. Its not so bad and does exacatly what you need

Please... no more winamp suggestions :D

It is too small, and it just doesnt work the way he wants it to... I agree, I am not crazy about it myself...

Is there any other suggestions... We have started playinga round with Traktor.. WOW! If there is a search function in Traktor, please let me know about it and we will be set!
