My wife's iPhone just started doing this as well. I have restored it, wiped it, and re-installed iTunes twice.

I have disabled automatic syncing, however when i connect my iPhone it starts to sync, then the mac says that the iPhone disconnected, the iPhone goes to the home screen but iTunes still says it's syncing the iPhone. It's an endless loop. I would love to figure this one out. :(

Mine has started doing this again, when I dock the iphone the spinning ball appears in itunes and stays like it for a few minutes then itunes recognises the phone

I have 2 new 3 g phones that just started doing this. Everything was ok until I was attempting to sync/upload some photos from my iphone to iPhoto and something happened to lock up the sync. I had to force quit and ever since that time I have had a general sync problem with 2 3G iphones. Strangely enough an old 1st gen iphone does not have this problem.

I have deleted itunes and the apple mobile sync files that it installs and then reinstalled everything and still have the problem. The only thing that works is to leave the phone connected for a while (I have no idea how long, minutes at least) as I usually walk away and then come back later to find the phone recognized by itunes.

This has been happening to me since iTunes was updated to 7.7. It happens with both my iPod and iPhone. I suspect it's nothing that we'll be able to fix but rather a bug in iTunes.

Don't worry, it wakes up after a bit.

Alright, thanks everyone. Guess we'll have to wait for the next update.

Yep, same problem here. Right now I am doing my fourth restore on my iPhone...not very happy to say the least.
