Hello,

I currently own an iPod touch and I would like to purchase a few applications from App Store, but since there's no iTunes Music Store (thus App Store) in Estonia, I thought I could buy a $100 gift card. But here's the thing - I don't know much about them and have a few questions.

1) Does the gift card actually even work in App Store?

2) I thought of purchasing the gift card from eBay. Once I've gotten the code and entered it, the whole amount is transferred to my iTunes account or can someone still use it after I've entered the code? (eBay seller double-selling the card?)

I also have a question about the App Store itself. If I were to purchase an iPhone later on, would I be able to transfer the purchased apps to both of the devices (iPod touch and iPhone)?

I hope you can help me out with these questions.

Thanks,
dr4cula

im not 100% sure but i think it works like this. You take the gift card and enter the code on it in itunes on a computer, it uploads that amount as like credit to your account, then when you buy anything from either iTunes or directly from the App Store on your touch it takes the prices off of the credit rather than charging you. I could be wrong tho, i never used it before.

For sure the gift card works for buying apps - but only if you're in the U.S. I live in Canada and found out the hard way that you need to have a credit card in order to buy apps. Has something to do with our country's laws. Probably the same in many other countries as well. I have no idea what Estonia's laws are like or if you're similarly affected.

I am not quite sure as to how you would be able to use the gift card if you do not have iTunes where you live.

To answer your questions:

1. Yes, the gift card will work. I had a gift and purchased a game with it through the app store. Even though it is an app store, it is still under iTunes. Thus, the gift card will have to work. In the United States, you need to have a credit card on file in order to have an iTunes account. I am not sure if it will give you any trouble though. But once you enter the gift card number through iTunes (you have to do this on a desktop computer in actual iTunes), it will show you your balance. Whenever you go to purchase something (it being a song, game, or whatever), it will seem as if you are purchasing it with the credit card you have on file. When the transaction processes and starts to download, it will automatically deduct from your balance.

2. The problem with purchasing gift cards or coupons from eBay is that you will never know if it has been used before and it is a scam. Some people do do this and it is not fair. The only way for you to tell is when you receive it and use it.

And yes, you can use the application later on. If purchased from iTunes (using a desktop computer) it saves on your iTunes account. (It should also be transferred if you purchased it on the iPod Touch when you sync it.) When you get the new phone, all you have to do is sync it and in the applications tab, click to sync them.

Good luck!

Or you could get a US Itunes card, but you would have to make an itunes account that had a US address. But if its US you can use your giftcard to buy Apps.

As long as you entered your code and it went to your account (eg, you saw the amount and it was confirmed) you need not worry about someone else using the amount.

As for transfers I read that as long as you have the devices on the same account then they should be able to transfer over.

Hope that helped!

Thanks alot! I read somewhere that it's possible to "trick" iTunes MS to think that you are from US by signing up US account. Since I already have US iTunes MS account I think I'm ready to go. A few Estonians have purchased music that way from iTunes. I wasn't sure it worked for applications though, but it seems that gift cards work. Thank you all again!
