How are "Voice memos" (recordings done with an iOS device: iPod Touch, iPhone etc.) meant to be handled in iTunes on a Mac?

After transferring a recording over from my iPod Touch to iTunes (12.6.2.20) on my Mac they appear in an iTunes-generated playlist named "Voice Memos" and are of the "Voice Memo" media kind. However, when creating a smart playlist there is no option for that media kind (just "Music", "Movies", "Podcast" etc.), so after transferring to the Mac do I need to change the media type and then rename its name to something more descriptive (the recordings are just named with their recording date/time)? And how about when I delete the recordings from my iPod Touch (after transferring to the Mac of course) -are the deletions also synced on the Mac, so I loose them there as well (meaning I need to copy them from the iTunes media folder to somewhere else on the Mac first)?

Confusingly, voice memos seem to appear differently than other media files in iTunes.
