I got my phone today, and decided to set it up through iTunes on my iMac like I l always do every year, except this year it wouldn't work properly. Made a backup of my X last night. Both the X and Xs Max were both on ios 12, so I thought it would go smoothly. Restore started fine, however, partially through it, it would say it could not connect and try restore again. All my basic settings transferred, even my photos and music, but none of my apps would transfer. I know there is no app section in iTunes anymore, but even after disconnecting, the phone would never download my apps. Last year i had no problem restoring my X through iTunes, and the apps immediately started downloading. I had to restart my X, then go and turn on icloud backup up, backup that way, and then do a full restore on my Xs Max via iCloud.

Sort of similar issue, though using Mac OS 10.12.3, and iTunes (updated version) won't connect to XS Max/doesn't acknowledge it's existence.

This happen to me on my X and Xs Max....had to download and reinstall iTunes and they all worked as usual.

I later reconnected my iPhone and saw this box about software update, mentioned here: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT208831

Of note, I was using the CalDigit hub yesterday, and this box about software update didn't appear. It only appeared later on when I directly connected the iPhone to to the MBP Pro.
