Hey all

I seem to have two categories of playlists in iTunes (see attached) and I'm wondering what the difference is. Both have been created by someone else and shared with me. When I browse music, I can only add to the "Jay" playlist. Could someone clarify for me?

Thanks!
Trevor

Those playlists with "gears" next to them are Smart Playlists. They are automatically populated based on parameters in their respective settings. You have to edit the parameters to change those playlists; you can't simply move songs in or out.

"Jay" is a regular playlist you can manually move songs in and out of .

If you have too many of those Smart Playlists on an older Mac, it will seriously slow down the iTunes interface.
