I just got a 15gig iPod and Am trying to rip all CDs to AAC. However some of the CDs are giving me problems, when I click import I get this error message. Has anyone experienced this ? how can I get aound it

The problem stems from the DRM on the CD, well probably. There is no easy way around it that I know of, other than never buying stupid, idiotitic restrictive DRM protected CDs. You could record to a cassette and then back to iTunes. Maybe there's a hack out there somewhere..... Anyone?

Yea I figured it was probably some DRM thing, Which sucks since this is a legit CD that I paid for and I should have the right to listen to it on my iPod. I hope someone knows a way around this.

SpyMac

I think SpyMac posted an article a while back about this. You are supposed to get a black felt pen, and make a circle on the inner part of the CD. Go look it up!

Just curious, could you tell us what album it was?

The ones I have discovered so far are:

1. World Famous Beat Junkies 3

2. Punk-o-Rama 4

3. Honest Don's welcome wagon

Thanks MacAztec, I will look into it

You could also try opening the CD in Finder, then try dragging the AIFFs onto your HD and see if that works. If you can get them on to the HD, you can then convert them to AAC in iTunes (Advanced->Convert Selection to AAC).

HA HA are you freakin kidding me? the inside of the cd is the directory. NO ONE DO THIS...

just to clear things up, it's the outside edge of the disc. you were close macaztec! :D :D :D

Nermal,

Yes that works and I am able to convert the AIFF files to AAC. However All the info is lost and I have to fill it in manually. Is there any way to preserve the info when itunes retrieves it ?

Thanks for you help

Not that I know of, but there might be a trick that someone else knows.

get a sharpie. you have to look on the bottom of the cd, and the encoding track is seperated from the audio track. you can see the seperation, the encryption track is on the outside edge of the cd. just put a mark through it (but not the audio part or you'll ruin the cd) and it should work fine. if i were you though, i'd return the cd if you can buy it from the itunes store. we really do have to send a message here.

I agree, we should warn others of cds that contain protection and if at all possible buy these albums from apple.

It would be great if someone was to do research on this and create a resource listing albums that fall into this category.

Screw Apple's iTMS

I would rather own the CD. You can only get...what...128kbps AAC audio from Apple's iTunes Store? I would much rather go get the CD, and be able to rip it at whatever quality i want.
