iPod itunes/ipod volume weirdness - help!

hi. i have a weird volume problem with itunes and my ipod, i think. here's the situation:

my music often has different volume levels, probably because it all came from different sources over the years. as i understand it, volume normalizing solutions often just make everything too quiet and just don't work very well, so the best solution is to adjust each song's/album's volume independently. so that's what i did. but the strange thing is that if i adjust everything to be perfect level across songs in itunes, it messes up the volumes in my ipod!

example: song #1 is way too quiet. so in itunes i put the volume way up high and that makes it equal with all my other songs (when i'm listening through my computer). then i update my ipod and listen to it and that song is super loud on my ipod! it's almost as if the ipod volume levels are different from the itunes volume, and adjusting them just throws that out of whack.

i don't know what to do. please help me find a workable way to normalize the volume of my music without messing up the ipod volumes. there must be something i can do, right?

(btw, i have a 2g nano, and i'm using itunes on a pc.)

Correct me if I'm wrong, but when you listen to music on your computer you probably don't use earphones. What I'm saying is that music sounds louder when it's being shot straight into your ear versus when it's coming out of a speaker in front of you. Maybe it isn't practical to expect your volume settings in iTunes to be satisfactory when used on your iPod. Heck, I didn't even know those types of settings carried over for use on iPods. Besides, iPods have their own volume normalization tool. It's called Sound Check.

what you're saying, if i understand this correctly, is that i have to use the same earphones from the ipod as from the computer, and not use amplified speakers on one and not the other. but that doesn't make sense. what i'm saying is that one song sounds much louder on one, relative to other songs...not that everything sounds louder. example:

computer:

song #1: normal
song #2: quiet.

(so i turn up the volume in song #2's properties in itunes...so on the computer they sound equal.)

ipod:

song #1: normal
song #2: wayyyy too loud.

(the adjustment corrects for the itunes problem and then creates a problem on the ipod.)

turn the volume up on your ipod..

heres how to turn the volume up on the low volume tracks on your ipod:1st install ipod, go to menu. go to the track you wish to turn up, then right click on the track, when the box opens up: go to" options"..you should see a volume bar, adjust volume but beware i turned up the slider to 75 percent and it nearly deafened me, i suggest 60percent or thereabouts...depends how loud you like your music though...good luck guys and gals..
