The part of the tag that holds the track X of Y.. every time I play a song it EATS the Y part of the tag. This is with a stock copy of iTunes 6.0.1 and it does not come back if I close and re-open iTunes I have to re-tag the effected files.

This is aggrivating!

Ok, searched around... found one possible lead turning off "fetch additional song info from internet" under Windows Media Player.. no change since I don't use it.

I keep poiking around... it does not happen with every albumn, only some of them. Once I have re-tracked the albumn it doesn't do it anymore.

Did iTunes "distroy" OS X's built-in spell checker, too? Most people find bad spelling somewhat "agrivating."

Anyway... taking a quick look at my iTunes shows the same problem. Good thing its not an essential piece of information, like the first track number is.
