Hello,

I have been syncing fine with both my new iPhone 3G, my 1st gen iPhone, and my two iPods for over a year.

When I plug my iPhone or iPod in it takes around three minutes until it shows up under Devices (Ive never had this happen) and I get the annoying beachball and cannot do anything until the phone/iPod is recognized. BUT the part that really bothers me is whenever I attempt to sync or apply any changes it takes 10-15 minutes for it to begin and again, I get the beachball. This is fairly annoying and I've been having my phone sync at night when I go to sleep but this should not happen and I want to fix it.

I have restored my iPhone and the phone shows right up and does it's thing fine on my Windows computer. I have also reinstalled iTunes 7.7.1 and no luck. I have also tried to downgrade to iTunes 7.7.0, and still NO luck. This is a VERY annoying problem and any help is greatly appreciated!

I think most problems are of the "backing up is taking forever variety"

I do get the beachball but only for 10-15 sec tops, so I don't see any problem. Is your library all on one HD? Just thinking out loud here....

yes all on one HD besides movies. iTunes runs fine but when I plug my phone in.. I get the beachball for at least 5 minutes an then syncing doesn't start for at least 10 minutes again I get the beachball.

I had an issue with iTunes 7.7 where the application would be unresponsive for a minute or so when an iPod was plugged in, then it would recognise the iPod and away it went.

The issue disappeared with iTunes 7.7.1
