I've searched the forums but not found a useful thread on this:

I have a bunch of videos (TV & Films) with 2 & 5.1 channels. I currently have these on external drives in different formats (mostly avi). I want to be able to put them all into my iTunes library but in a format that watches well on a 42" LCD HDTV & on my iPhone 3GS. I re-watch them quite often and don't want to have to convert them every time. Any suggestions as to format/resolution?

Many thanks

Hey there,
Do you have your TV hooked up with AppleTV?

I think you're going to need something like Handbrake, especially if you want to get them onto your iPhone.

I have handbrake, which I use for ripping my DVDs. I use Visual Hub for podding other video. I don't have :apple:TV, I have a Mac Mini hooked up to my 42" with a 1TB external USB drive.

There's a "Universal Apple" preset in Handbrake that makes videos that will play on any Apple device.

I use it all the time and my videos look great on a 42" Sony Grand Wega.

I will try that. Thanks.
