My problem is this, I have my IMAC with a brand new HDD but to keep it clutter free i have placed my iTunes library on and External HDD. The problem i am having is when i go in to reorganize my iTunes library (i.e. adjusting get info to place episodes in right folder, season or correct order) i get the SBBOD and it takes more time then necessary to process. Can anyone help or advise me on a way to fix this.

Would installing additional RAM help or is there another solution that could assist me?

I've had my iTunes library on external drives in the past and never ran into the SBBOD. Are you connecting the drive through USB, TB?

If you have room on your brand new HDD, why not put your iTunes library on there? I mean its not a room you have to keep spotless and clean, its meant to store info

Its not a ram problem, but to be sure, just open up Activity Monitor and see your ram pressure (if you're on the latest version of OSX).
