Hi,

I have a 24" Imac that currently holds my itunes library which is around 500GB. I have 2 apple TV's an Ipad and an Iphone that all access the library.

Ive recently purchased a HP Microserver which is on 24/7. I usually leave my imac on 24/7 but am thinking that if i can move my itunes to the server then I can start turning the imac off when its not in use.

So, want i want to do is move the entire itunes library onto the Windows 2008R2 server and be able to access it from all of my devices. I also want to be able to add songs / movies etc to the library BUT from the imac.. Is this possible?

Yes, the access part is possible with home sharing. I am not too sure how the adding works with home sharing, but I remember reading something about this.

Personally, I would do a remote desktop connection to the windows server from the iMac and add them that way, if I couldn't figure out how to do it, or if it wasn't possible, via iTunes.

yeh, I currently manage the server from my Imac using RDP but always tend to convert movies etc using handbrake on my imac.

I was going to suggest Firefly as that used to be the 'go-to' music server for Linux/Mac/Windows but that isn't under development anymore, and from what I have just been looking at, doesn't seem to work with iTunes 10 anymore.

A couple of forums were suggesting Subsonic. This may help.

There's a couple ways to do it. You can either create an iTunes folder on the server, and use iTunes on the iMac to move the library there and manage it from the iMac going forward. Then just dragging media into iTunes will copy it over the network to your server.

You could also install iTunes itself onto the server and keep all your media there and use home sharing to access it on your iMac. Then you can just copy media files into the Automatically Add to Itunes folder on the server.
