iTunes library pointed to wrong location

Hey, I have my iTunes library on a non boot-volume. I also keep that volume backed up. Both are internal drives. Somehow within the last week, the library was pointed to the backup volume. In trying to re-point it back to the primary I'm finding that despite it showing where I want it to point in preferences. The apps and music files are still being pointed to the backup location. I'm wondering what the best way to fix all this would be? Frustrating as I have no idea how this happened since I do not recall changing that preference in the last week nor is there a reason why I would.

Hold down alt/option key then click on iTunes to start it & select the library you want.

Hmmm... that didn’t help. Somehow iTunes library isn’t updating the iTunes Media folder location despite it being changed to be correct in preferences > advanced. Is there another way to go about this?

Both iTunes Library.xml and iTunes Music Library.xml contain the wrong path. I am inclined to just manually find and replace the path but unsure if that is the best course of action here since I am confused why iTunes is not responding to the preference path.

Can someone please help me. I have a backup drive where the .xml files point to the correct place but if I drag them and the itl over the old ones no matter what I do the files still keep pointing to a drive I am not specifying or want them to be pointed to. This is starting to drive me crazy as I cannot figure it out and am unclear on how to proceed.

If I change the drive path in the preferences to where I want things pointed... and physically move the itunes media folder into the trash from the place it is currently pointed and don't want it to be if I go into iTunes it then points all files to my trash. It's like it is following around this directory or something.
