I don't really use Icloud services, other than storing my itunes Library. I'm sure I am only one of many that has a large and costly iTunes library. I have a lot of music and movies etc. My computer cannot support the massive downloads, and I am wondering if I need to download all of my content to portable hard drives, just in case Apple stops offering downloads from the Cloud, directly to our devices. I don't want to loose my entire Library if this happens.

Do you guys think I need to worry about backing up my physical files, or will keeping them in the Cloud be enough?

Thanks
Sarah

Apple suggests that you download them. When you buy a movie/ TV show/ song from iTunes. You don't technically own it. You just bought the rights to download and watch / listen to it. If a network company like FOX were to remove the rights for iTunes to sell movies and TV shows that come from FOX, then you lose the ability to download / watch the episodes from the cloud. However if it's downloaded then you can always watch it regardless of whether fox removes the rights to watch the episodes or not.

I highly recommend this as well. I moved my entire library (all media) onto my NAS and it works extremely well.

All cloud services or either a convenience or an additional backup. None of them should ever replace a local hard copy of your info.

YES YES YES YES YES, I lost 26,000 (yes THOUSAND) songs this way (although I admit it was not apple it was a different remote server, but still), luckily I was able to recover the vast majority of them as I kept the CD's in storage, but there are live albums I recorded years ago at shows that I will never, ever get back. ALWAYS BACK IT UP LOCALLY!!!!I now have my entire library backed up on three separate HDD's for redundancy. Besides when the zombies attack and Skynet takes over how will you listen to your music if it was on an apple server?!?!
