iTunes Library Updater for Mac?

I see that this has been asked a few times (albeit a long time ago), but there's never really been a definitive answer.

I have just switched to Mac and I used to use a program called iTLU on the PC which would automatically update my iTunes library (remove tracks that have been deleted from the hard drive and add tracks that are new).

Is there anything like this for the Mac?

There are scripts for iTunes that can replicate this functionality, though not all in one script.

Thanks, I did actually come across Doug's scripts when Googling, but couldn't really see what I wanted. I guess I'll have to take another look.

'Remove Dead Files' on Dougs Scripts to remove orphans from the library.

To add new files, just drag the parent folder where the media is located. iTunes is smart enough to only add missing files to the library (i.e. it won't add duplicates)

That should do it actually. I'm in the process of using MusicBrainz to properly tag all my MP3s, and the filenames change according to the new tags. I guess if I run the script then just import the music folder again it should work.

Doug's scripts rule! Apple should buy them, and hire him. I can't imagine how anybody could browse his site and not find one, or ten, they need.

I'm not sure thats not really accurate

iTunes will re-add the same files over and have duplicates all over the place.

I swear iTunes is the only program i still go back to my Windows box for. Apple has done an absolute awful job with the product to the point where Windows Media Player and Media Monkey on windows can run laps around iTunes when it comes to maintaining a library

Really? That has NOT been my experience, if you have iTunes set to copy your files to its media structure and keep itself organized (the defaults on the Mac, which is what I have mine set to). For some odd reason, the Windows version of iTunes doesn't use this combination as the default.

I came across this thread while searching for some info on how to maintain my library because I'm having issues with duplicates too. If there's some way to have iTunes stop copying them, I'd love to know about it.
