iTunes Match and Apple Music?

Really confused here So I noticed Apple Music pulled a few albums. So I ripped the cd's. When I try to add them to my playlist, it says it must be in the cloud in order to add to apple music. Question is, I thought that iTunes match was part of it? So in order to have anything you own you need to also have iTunes match plus apple music to make them work together?

Also, iTunes match, if my hard drive were to die, all of my music would be safe in the cloud even if apple music does not have the album? Was going to buy an external to backup everything, but maybe iTunes match is safer.

What do you guys do who have apple music but not all the music is on it?

I’ve never had iTunes Match before but have got an Apple Music sub, I just rip my CD to iTunes then select upload to cloud then it appears on my phone.

So i guess I have a different question then. Really just want to back up my CD's since I am getting rid of them. If you back them up to the iCloud, you have to pay extra for the cloud a month. So lets just say my computer dies and the hard drive fails, i buy a new hard drive or computer which ever I need, i just go on iCloud and i can then import all my music? The cloud does confuse me obviously

Apple Match is NOT a backup service. Also iCloud files is NOT a data backup service (only data for apps supported) but a syncing/space saving service. You should buy a USB HD and make a backup to it or chose an on-line backup service or both since you can NEVER have too many backups.

If you wanna backup your CD's, rip them to a hard drive and keep them safe...

Their are online cloud backup services like Carbonate... but i'd feel safer ripping CD's and keeping them on external drive at home

The way I'm approaching it, my music (and movies and apps) saved locally are my backup, which is then backed up via Time Machine to an external. My iTunes in the Cloud-turned-Apple Music library is my 'original' so to speak.

Ripping your CDs and then selling them is not "backing up," it's theft.
