Itunes Match and CDs

I'm not sure if this is possible. I have some old CDs in my attic. I'd like to use them with iTunes match also. Do I have to rip them first, or does iTunes match recognize you own a legit CD and match it automatically? This if possible would save tons of time. Im just thinking that has to be just as legit as it isif someone ripped all their CDs.

Just thought I'd ask before spending days working on this.

I am pretty sure Apple has not yet release iMindReader nor iESP, so until that is released how would you expect Apple or for that matter, any other Earth bound device to know that you own CD's in your attic and for that matter make those contents available to you electronically? *sarcasm off*

If the music is not on your computer then it cannot be matched or uploaded.

Rephrased, the original question is:
After I insert a cd into my mac, will iTunes match it against the iTMS and mark it on my account that I have the cd? Or will I have to rip it first before Match kicks in?

In itself, it's a fair question in terms of technology. In terms of legality, I'd be hesitant to offer an answer.

What I meant was if I grabbed the CDs, and placed them in my drive would iTunes realize, "hey..this is a legit CD,I'll match it". I've got tons of them just from collecting over the years and wanted to save myself the time not having to rip them.

How is that different than if the music was ripped? iTunes has to check with the Gracenote media database when it rips the CD, so is that not a form of validation??

Because iCloud ONLY works on and in your iTunes database.

That is a great idea. I ripped a bunch of moldy CDs to prepare for iTunes Match. Because I ripped two simultaneously there were some drops. Instead of re-ripping again them I waited for iTunes Match and replaced them with matched copies. It would have been nice to not rip them at all.

We all knew what you meant.

I agree your idea would be a nice feature. Much faster than having to rip the whole CD just to have the files replaced by Match anyway.

This would be a great feature to have. Who doesn't have hundreds of CD's they don't listen to, simply for the fact it's tedious to rip a CD you only want to listen to for one-two songs?

You guys need to lighten up. I WAS KIDDING, IT WAS A JOKE, HA HA. Wow, some of you are wound up a little tight around here. At the end of my post I gave the correct response to the OP.
