I signed up for iTunes match so i could push my entire library out to all my devices.. for the most part it worked OK but i decided to go through my library and clean it up so it had correct data... i also deleted music i didn't want.

Whilst i was doing this i turned off itunes Match on my itunes library on my mac, assuming that when i switched it back on it would re-scan my library and update accordingly.. but instead it undid all my data changes and made my library an absolute mess:

- Albums i had downloaded now appear as in the cloud only with the little download icon, previously these albums were on my computer so whats happened there?

- My changes to ID3 tags have been undone

.. also, i have quite a few albums that iTunes is able to match but it will decide it doesn't want to match 1 or 2 songs and upload them instead.. i've checked the ID3 tags and made changes against the iTunes store data so it's exactly the same so why can't it match it? Is this an error with the service? how can it be fixed, i know it doesn't matter much but i'm just looking to make the library as clean and consistant as possible.

When you make changes to your metadata, leave Match turned on. Run an update (Store > Update iTunes Match), make your changes, then run another update. This should make sure everything gets propagated properly.

Matching tracks ignores ID3 tags, it's based on the audio fingerprint of the actual song. It's pretty good, but some tracks just don't seem to match, annoyingly.

totally missed that, many thanks.

I assumed it would be a combination of ID3 tags and fingerprint, nevermind.. no need to make sure they are perfect now.
