Now that match is available in the uk - i just want to check 1 thing before i go ahead and buy it.

Up until now I've only ever stored the albums i'm currently interested in on my mba. All the other random albums are on an external hdd.

If i changed my iTunes library on my mba to my ext hdd and enabled match and did the setup process, when i disconnect my ext hdd, will i still have access to all my songs but from the cloud..... And therefore will any song i play download to my mba... so i won't need to have the ext hdd powered on all the time?

thanks

I am wondering the same thing. Most of my (older) music is on NAS. I just purchased Match, because I was hoping that I could replace the iPod Classic that died not too long ago... But with people reporting having problems with enabling match on two accounts on one computer, my hope are down... there have to be some people who already went through this hopefully.. Thanks for hints!

From what i understand, if you use an ext HDD for your iTunes library and enable match, match won't DL the files when the ext hdd is powered off... It will just say file not found.

The solution is to open iTunes whilst pressing down the option key, this allows you to create a new iTunes library or choose an existing profile.

What i plan to do is, enable match on my external hdd then once all the files are matched i will swap to a blank profile. This will then DL all my songs at 256kbps...

If i want to stream ALAC to my valve amp and speakers i just plug the ext hdd back in and open iTunes with the lossless profile.... in theory.

I see no reason why this method of switching profiles won't work for multiple cloud accounts too.
