If I enable iTunes match on my iPad 2, will I be able to listen to my music on an airplane without a data connection?

You'll have to download your library through iTunes Match onto your iPad2

You will have to go through and download albums/songs etc you want to have locally on the iPad so that they will play when in Airplane mode. Much like how you'd have to sit at iTunes and choose which songs to sync (unless you did auto syncing).

What I've found that helps is that if you create a playlist in iTunes, that playlist will get sent to your device automatically. Then on your iPad, you can go into the playlist.....scroll to the end and choose download all.

i set up match and started listening to music in a playlist, i have all music on my iphone but when i went to airplane mode all playlists vanished?

I just put my iPod into Airpland Mode and my playlists did not disappear. Do you think iTunes Match was done trasferring data to your iDevice when you went into Airplane Mode?
