iTunes Match: will files be deleted locally?

I'm working on a new backup strategi and because of that, I have a question to the new iTunes Match service.

If I subscribe to iTunes Match and 50% of my library gets matched and uploaded to my iCloud Library, will these files then be deleted from my local library?

Is iCloud library a standalone library or will it be integrated with my local iTunes library? If they are integrated, can I then manually delete the matched songs from my local library and only stream them?

I'd like to know where the files are then.....
I recently signed up for iTunes Match and now all my music folders are empty except for the album artwork....
Nevermind, found them all in a music subfolder, probably soemthing I did earlier.

It does seem to delete the files from your iPhone/iPad. The frustrating thing is (i might post this in its own thread too) is that anytime you add a song to your library (that isn't bought directly on iTunes ex. cd) it only adds it to your iTunes match library after you click on "Update iTunes Match." Also, before the smart playlists such as Top 25 Most Played or Recently Added were the same among the playlists for every device (iPhone, iPad, mac, etc) and now they are not....i hope they fix these two things

It does seem to delete the files from your iPhone/iPad.

I hope this can be changed once it's public. I was pretty excited about using iCloud as a supplement to what I already have locally on my iPhone and iPad. That is, be able to access songs that I normally wouldn't sync due to space limitations.

When I'm on a road trip or up in the mountains, there's no signal. Without a signal, I can't use iCloud. Bummer.

Gotta have music on a road trip Apple!

I hope so. If it doesn't then Match is useless.
why keep songs on your macbook & iPhone and let them take up space when you can keep them in the cloud taking up 0 space?

I'm having the same issue after letting iTunes Match do it's thing. My iPhone no longer has the songs stored locally. I can access them all from the cloud but that's not ideal all the time. When I connect the iPhone to iTunes the Music tab is no longer there and I'm unable to add songs to my iPhone. Just wondering if anyone has figured out a fix for this? Thanks.

This is how iTunes Match is designed to work. Tap on the cloud button, and the song will download to your device, thereby saving a local copy. If you want a local copy of a song or album, you have to download it from iCloud with that button. The idea is that only the songs you actually listen to will be stored on the device, but your entire library will be available at the touch of a button.

If this is how it's designed to work I am not sure if I want to use iTunes match

I currently have about 50GB of songs on my iPod Touch, so if I start using iTunes match I will need to download 50GB worth of music to get where I am now

I thought it would allow me to fill up my iPod with music as I do now, but if there is anything else thats not on my iPod then I could download it
