iTunes Music folder twice as big as iTunes library

So I downloaded Backup 3 from .Mac in order to back up all my music. I chose "iTunes library" as my backup source and clicked "backup". It proceeds to tell me I'll need 10 DVD's to finish the backup? I look at my screen icredulously, as my iTunes library is only 21.63 gigs, according to iTunes, and my small video collection is less than a gig. So I check my iTunes music folder in my home folder, and it reads 35 gigs. What gives?

When you delete songs, do you click for them to be moved to the trash?

If you have a lot of spare hard drive space, go to the iTunes preferences and under the Advanced section, change your music library's location to a different folder. This should copy across all your music to that new spot, meaning you can then delete the original iTunes Music folder (or whatever you had it named as).
