I'm trying to free up space on my PowerBook so I have been beginning to think about moving some of my less listened to music to my external HD. Is there an easy way to do this and still keep the songs in the library, even though I know they will get the little "can't find file" exlamation point when I am on the road?

Also, is there any problem with moving and using big apps like iDVD and GarageBand on the external HD?

Thanks!!

moving the apps to the external drive will be much easier than part of an iTunes library. the last version of iDVD I had was all self-contained in the package so you could literally just move it and it should work fine. GarageBand might also work like this. try copying it to the external drive and try running it before you delete the original, but my guess will be that it will work fine
