iTunes on Air

Hi All,
I am likely getting a macbook air when the new ones come out. I wanted to know from peoples experiences, how fast is iTunes? It really bugs me that my windows 7 i5.. yak yak takes like 10 minutes to load iTunes. The air has significantley lower specs, and iTunes would be one of my used apps. Another Question: I know/heard that the air has faster usb ports for the superdrive, would the faster usb ports make ipod syncings faster? thanks.
Also if I where to get an iPad, would the air be able to charge it?

I hope you weren't serious about the 10 minute thing. That's horrifying.

It'll be perfectly fine. Macs don't get bogged down like Windows machines do. At least not under normal use lol

I have quite literally spent thousands on my windows desktop and I'd say it's damn fast. I have iTunes loaded on an SSD but it still takes a little while to start up on Windows 7 64bit.

I also have the 2010 base model 1.4GHz C2D Air and iTunes opens in about 2.5 seconds. It's clearly built for mac os and it works like a dream. I just use home share from the desktop because of space (or lack thereof) on the Air.

I don't use iTunes on my Air that often but it seems to open in seconds.

On my Mac Pro with an iTunes library with nearly 4TB's (Yes TB's) of media it opens in just a few seconds.

The processor in the Air is slower than the i5, but unless you had a SSD in that Win7 machine, the speed of the Air's SSD is *significantly* faster than whatever hard drive it had. Opening iTunes hardly uses any of the processor, but it uses a whole lot of disk. In that case, the Air has significantly BETTER specs than your Win7 machine and should start iTunes in literally 2-3 seconds.

The Air has higher powered USB ports. That doesn't make them any faster at transferring data. My Air charges my iPad just fine.

no it does not actually take 10 minutes... notice I put the work 'Like' in there I am really impatient though. Thanks for your suggestion on home sharing but I think I am going to keep my iTunes library on the computer because my library is under 40gb (planning on getting the largest hard drive and one of those mini micro sd card reader things) Wow you have a large iTunes library!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have a pretty large Itunes library. It loads up quickly on Windows 7 and OS X, and all of my processors are a few years old (C2D and dual core).

iTunes is horrible on Windows (well it was on XP and Vista anyway).
However it works great on any Mac, and even better on an SSD. It think the CPU has nothing to do with your problem.

My library is 130gb (90% is lossless though) and my 13"MBA runs iTunes better than my i5 13"MBP.

True. I can't honestly say I've missed the 893 updates every time I shut the computer down.

iTunes loads in about 3 seconds on my Windows 7 (64bit) machine and that's on a Core 2 Quad + SSD but my music and movie libraries load from a mechanical network drive. Maybe you've got a failing drive on that PC?

I have the 11.6 Air ultimate and a little over 12000 songs in iTunes. I just loaded it in 3 seconds. Hope this helps as a timeframe.

I hope its not failing! the darn thing isn't even 3 months old yet!

My experience is that iTunes on the MBA SSD is very fast (a bit faster than my old MBP and a fair bit faster than my even older Toshiba Satellite Pro which was my first computer to host iTunes).

However, you may have slight problems with the MBA superdrive; mine is less than ideal.
