Does anyone know how to get itunes to play consistantly through an album with out pausing after every track. I have some great albums where the songs blend together but itunes ruins that by putting a point of a second gap between everything. I've searched and searched but cant find any box to tick or anything to rectify this. As a regular pc user this is one of the big ways in which windows media player is better at the moment. Any ideas? please help

Things are actually better than they used to be. I've noticed the sound gap between songs getting consistently shorter over time. But it's still there 
If you don't like gaps, you can set iTunes to crossfade playback, but I'm sure that would just ruin the sound of your CD's. If it really means a lot to you, you could import your entire album into an MP3/AAC editor and string all the tracks back-to-back, and then save the whole thing as a continuous song.

I wish Apple would fix this gap problem already! It's hard to believe a company like Apple could leave something like this unfixed for so long.
Thanks, just so I know I'm not alone. I spoke to a couple of other mac users and they thought there was a way to do it but didnt know how. Its such a fundamental thing I'm sure Apple would have a very very good reason for not sorting this. If they dont they need to pull their finger out
The only cause I can see for this problem is the one thing that makes iTunes so good: XML.
The iTunes library is basically a huge xml file with all the tracks in it. When iTunes plays a playlist it must parse (I'm guessing all this BTW) the xml file to find the next track, update last played date, counters, etc. Most mp3 players just sequentially play tracks from a folder.
Just guessing, but this is the only cause I can see (also applies to iPod as it updates the same things as iTunes).

Y'know, this just came to me, but the skipping tracks could be a limitation of the music codec itself. My tracks skip whenever I modify the tag of whatever song I'm currently listening to. I mean, it should be simple enough to make sure tracks don't skip when you rename them or add lyrics, but they still do. With all the effort Apple has been putting into iTunes over the last few years, I am of the opinion that if a fix were easy, it'd be done already. But who knows?
