So now that 256 is the standard in both the iTunes store and when importing cd's, people will be able to hold less on their iPods. On the iPod box, song capacity is calculated @ 128kbps, so will that change? Will Apple recognize the need for high capacity with the advent of higher bitrate standard? Please release a 250GB classic in September,Apple!!!!!

Good point. I did not think about that.

Apple has always bragged about how many songs you can hold in your pocket. It will be interesting to see if they recalculate the capacities.

Either way, I am glad that we are moving towards quality instead of focusing on quantity.

I just installed 8.1 and my default is still AAC 128kbps.

yeah, i'm assuming you've had iTunes installed prior to the 8.1 version. When the new version installs, it copies the preferences from the old to the new. So since the old default was 128kbps (and I'm assuming you didn't change the default), the importing bitrate will still be 128. The change in default will only effect people who install iTunes on their computer for the first time.

Right. I see now the new option for iTunes Plus. That's what I was looking for. I had to manually select it.

I just installed iTunes 8 but I can't find the option for 256kbps or the iTunes Plus stuff? Is it automatic? Does every new song that you purchase automatically pick DRM free or Plus?

Has anyone got any feedback on the speed increases promised? I'm syncing 12,000 tracks from a NAS box so it would be really useful!

Cheers,

S

I too hope they bring out a new large capacity iPod. It would be really annoying if I had a problem with my 160GB iPod Classic and couldn't replace it with something of at least the same capacity.
