hi everyone, not sure if I’m in the right area. The problem I’m have is my hdd failed on my Mac mini, I replaced the drive with a new SSD. My iTunes library has always been on a external hdd, I can’t seem to link iTunes with the iTunes media. I held down the option button when I started iTunes and chose the location where the media is, but iTunes says it can’t find any media. No I don’t have a TM backup of the old drive so I don’t have access to the other files under the iTunes folder. Does someone have a link to detailed instructions on how to get iTunes to see my media. I’ve been searching the web for 2 hours and can’t find anything. Thanks

So, the old HDD would have had a Music/iTunes. folder with the XML files describing the library. In that, it would define the media location as the external HD.

If you have a Time Machine backup, the iTunes folder should be in there. If not, you may be able to mount the old HD with a usb enclosure and access files (a lot of times HD failure is not complete, just prevents booting). Finally, if all else fails, open iTunes with default OOTB library (empty), set the path for the media in preferences, and re-import everything.
