Hello.

I have a large library of movies, both purchased from iTunes and ripped from DVD. The past week, sporadically it seems, but consistently now today, when I play any iTunes movie, all I get is a black screen. It's not just 1 movie though, none of the other movies I have purchased will play.

All that shows up is the controls at the bottom of the screen, and black , so it seems like when you are waiting for it to begin, and the only problem is, it doesn't. If the movie has iTunes extras, the extras menu will appear, but selecting play warrants the same result.

I have all the movies stored to an external drive, which what I have been using to watch while I'm on lunch at work. However, none play. When I detached the drive tried to stream, none played. Local non iTunes-DRM file? No problem. Protected Music video file? Seems OK. I have 2 iTunes libraries, one on an external drive and one on my laptop. the problem is the same with both of them. I have tried logging in and out and re-authorizing my iTunes Store account.

I checked for any computer updates, but it says I'm up to date so I have no clue what's going on. I'm on Mojave.

I had this issue as well.. but in Windows.. I fixed it by uninstalling and reinstalling itunes.. Now the Mac version and the PC version operate a bit different when it comes to integration but this worked for me.

Before you go that route though, since your library is located on external media, try this.. make a new user on your mac with admin rights.. (can be removed later) Launch itunes and point it at your existing library. If it works then you know there is something going on in your other profile, settings etc. If not pick one of the effected movies... delete it from your library. Re-download it. Does it work? This may point to DRM / resolution issues (4k / HD vs SD) Hope this helps.

It just started randomly working when I got home from work today. I just don't get it, and the inconsistency makes troubleshooting SO difficult. thanks for the input.
