iTunes recognizes jailbroken 3G stuck in bootloop after 4 weeks of use

but... I cant restore.

iTunes recognizes the phone as there is nothing wrong - so I tried hitting restore from backup. iTunes restores the phone, but the phone is still stuck at bootloop with the apple logo.

I tried pushing the buttons for 10sec, then releasing power until I got it into some specific state I read in a guide - but then iTunes reports with an error message.

what to do? any help please?

think I got it to work by holding down home button while connecting to iTunes
