Is there a more streamlined (and GOOD) audio player for OSX? iTunes strikes me as being slightly too meaty if its just being used as a player, and not as a big media jukebox type thing.

Im very new to the world of Apple, so hopefully someone wont pop in and say, "surely youve heard of MacAmp" :)

Cheers.

Actually, we pretty much all use iTunes. If you're just looking to play a single song though, quicktime will do the trick. There are some others out there, but most are older, and none of them feel as nice as iTunes.

You can always keep iTunes open and press the green button to collapse the player down. OSX will take care of memory management so it won't seem like such a hog.

u are the first mac user i've met who doesn't think that iTunes is the best music player for Mac

it's not because it's made by Apple

but the interface, the simplicity and the functions it delivers really blow the competitors away...

In the preferences, you can disable the iTunes Music Store and all the other stuff you don't want. You can hide or show columns in the song list and reduce it to song - album - artist for example, and hide album art... it's pretty easy to configure it to be "simple".

If I want to bring up a small, quick music-playing app, I use Audion.

Otherwise, I use iTunes like the rest of the crowd.
