It is for a dozen people I know.

During that huge outage last week(?), the status showed it was up when I checked, yet it was down. It's not very reliable (the status page). Kind of pointless...

Some people may be having problems, but the store isn't down, or everyone would have the problem. If even a significant portion of people were having the problem, there would be a lot more threads and posts about it. It's up and running just fine for me and many I've asked.

Well, I'm in Michigan, and someone in Florida and California also had issues. It makes me wonder if it was a loaf balancing issue or something.

But it's working.

But to deny that it's down just because you are able to get in is rather ridiculous, don't you think?

But anyway... Carry on.

No more ridiculous than denying that it's up just because you aren't able to get in. If the store was down, no one would be able to get in, which clearly isn't the case.

To be fair when it was unavailable a few weeks ago they stated it was all up but none of my devices could get in at my house, on the road or at work. So I do agree with the others that their status page is a little pointless. If it was partially up (some nodes), they should at least turn the icon yellow.

The fact that you, or even several people can't get in does not indicate that the store itself is down. That only means you can't get in. If the store was, indeed, down, no one would be able to get in. There are many factors that can contribute to one person being unable to access the store... or any website, for that matter. It doesn't necessarily mean that the destination is down.

It isn't one node that runs that store, it is many. If several nodes that run or handle traffic from a certain region go down, so yes, it would be down for me as I (and many others) can no longer use it. Does that mean it is totally off-line? Nope, but telling people there is nothing wrong when clearly there is, doesn't really help either. Clearly their status page sucks and needs to be better managed or just simply changed to a degraded status. Hence the reason for the degraded status of yellow to indicate that SOME may have problems.

If you looked at this site, you would have seem many people complaining about it and some saying it was up. That is pretty clear to me that it is in fact, having issues and worthy of a status change but they never did change it. I can tell you for a fact, it was down and I was unable to listen to cloud based music or even get to the store. Doesn't get much more down than that!

I just saw your second post... You are just being pedantic now. I work in IT and manage several large SQL clusters. If a customer can't get to my servers and others can, it is degraded but down for that customer. Either way it is worthy of a change.

I'm not telling anyone that nothing is wrong. Something is clearly wrong if even one person can't access the store, but determining where the problem lies (on the user's end or on Apple's end or somewhere in between) is another matter. I haven't denyed that people are having problems accessing the store. I'm simply stating that the store itself is not down. If if was, no one would be able to access it.

If the store was down, no one would be able to get in.

So then it was partially down, does that make you happy?

You remind me of a person who thinks climate change isn't real because it happens to be cold and snowy where he is at the moment.

Oh and for the record, I was unable to download app updates at the time other people were saying they were having problems. The problem seems to have been fixed within an hour.

To add to the tediousness, sorry I even posted this. *flounce*

My original post was 'Hey, it ain't working at my end of the swamp. How about anyone else?'

The more helpful response would have been 'Hey, at my end of the swamp, it's working great. I'm in X state and haven't had a problem all morning. Odd...' rather than, as if coming from a high pedestal 'It's not down, you're just doing it wrong.'

After I saw the spread of others that commented, I couldn't assume that it was a 'local' event, unless 'local' meant the space between the aforementioned Michigan, Florida, and California.

I'm glad it worked for you this morning. I tried multiple times to update apps and got nowhere. Knowing the outage of a few weeks ago (was it that long ago?) I was just curious if it was another outage. Nothing more, nothing less.

So, split all the hairs, or hares(?) you want. Apparently if you aren't having a problem, no one else is either.

And with that, I'm gone...

Hence why I said it was "partially up" in my initial post.

We are just splitting hairs here. ;)

In the internet, there should be no 'partially down'. There are protocols and such to keep that from happening. Well, or there was... Apparently something just went kablooey. A technical term meant to say that 'something broke'...

Apple is not the Internet... In a company, nodes of a larger system can come down for various reasons (patching, hardware failure, etc...) meaning that the system is not running at it's full potential. I agree that Apple should have some type of failover in place for a problem like this, but this could have been a circuit or even something a simple as a firewall issue that caused the outage. So yes, there can very easily be a partial failure of a system (hopefully they learn from it), in fact, it looks like that actually happened today. I deal with high availability systems and networks on a daily basis. ;)
