I created a mkv file from a bluray i would like to put in iTunes to view on my iPad and iPhone. Because there is the option to create a 5.1 surround audio track and a Stereo track. I let iVI create both. Because my surround sound is connected to my iMac (Thunderbolt ==> HDMI from AV Receiver). But when the encode is done (I used the Apple TV 2 pre-settings) the stereo audio is playing fine, when I switch it to Surround Audio the movie stops playing and won't continue unless I switch it back to Stereo audio.
I tried playing the movie on surround sound with VLC and it worked fine. Is this a bug or can am I doing something wrong?

Maybe try the sound preferend pane to select digital out for iTunes? Or is there an option in iTunes or QuickTime to select a different soundtrack?

IVI and most other apps put the stereo AAC track as the #1 or default track in order to be compatible with iOS devices.

Rereading your post, what format is your surround track? AAC or ac-3?

the first track is the AAC track (stereo)
The second one is a 5.1 AC3

My setup in the sound pref is ok because VLC is playing fine
When I play the movie in QuickTime x or 7 pro I hear a humming sound,
Again the stereo track is playing fine

IIRC VLC ignores/bypasses the sound preference pane, so you need to set that up for QuickTime/iTunes. It's an integrated/open source thing? Similar to VLC being able to raise volume much higher than the Mac OS.

Any idea how to do that? I only can change the 48.000 bitrate or from decoded channel to 6 channel audio
