So, after turn iTunes Match on/off.....my iPad is in a weird state.

It has NO music on it. As long as it's not plugged into iTunes or iTunes is not open for WiFi syncing, then when I open the music app, it shows no music.

However, once it's connected to iTunes, iTunes THINKS it has 2 songs on it....and what looks like it wants to sync a few more (see screenshot). When I go into the Music app with it connected to iTunes....nothing shows up.

I can delete and sync via iTunes, but the songs never disappear.

I can manually add the songs....but they just show as duplicate.

Any ideas?

-Kevin

Just did a restore from an iCloud backup.

Not luck.....iTunes still thinks there are those songs that need to be synced, except now the two songs that it thought were there aren't, just the greyed out ones.

This happened to me recently, so I made sure music was not ticked to sync, made a backup and restored in iTunes. It solved the problem.

Were you manually managing music? I was.

I never autofill any songs. In fact....I had wiped all the music from the iPad before turning on iTunes Match.

I think this is iTunes having this bad data. Anyone have any idea if there are caches/settings in iTunes I can delete?

I think Apple needs to figure out managing music via iTunes when you have iTunes Match turned on. They say the music is erased but it's not. They say you can't sync, but they allow you to drag files.

I had actually no music on my iPad and I had downloaded lots of songs from my iTunes account past purchases. Then I deleted them from the iPad in Settings app. Next time I plugged into iTunes i discovered the problem. All the greyed out songs were ones I had downloaded from iTunes on the iPad itself. Like a memory of the ones I had deleted on the iPad itself. I mever tried to verify this by trying again. Try an iTunes restore. It fixed it.

Try an iTunes restore. It fixed it.

You mean an iPad restore through iTunes.....or reinstall iTunes itself?

I did Erase all settings and restore from an iCloud Backup.....it worked perfectly....except of course iTunes still has the greyed out songs ;-)

EDIT: I did also reboot my Mac....no luck.

EDIT: I did also reboot my Mac....no luck.

I mean restore the iPad in iTunes, but make a backup first by right clicking on ****'s iPad and then restore it and then restore from backup in iTunes. Not iCloud. This worked for me, no need to reinstall iTunes.

Ok, what's interesting is, when I do a get info in iTunes for the song....it shows "Stream" under Size?!?

Ok, so not real happy now. Why does it seem the higher the iOS version, the more problems.

So I restored my iPad again from an older iCloud backup from earlier this week. Thought, ok....this was before match etc.

Well, now I have a restored iPad with a NEW set of songs greyed out in iTunes and no way to get rid of them.

Seriously Apple?!?

I know this is an iPad issue because I just plugged it into my Macbook (not my main iTunes library) and sure enough....the same greyed out songs are showing.

I really don't want to start from scratch as I'd lost all my app data!

Restore and backup through iTunes, not iCloud, as I have now stated 3 times. If you want advice, the least you can do is listen to it.
Good luck getting it fixed

Ok, so I have to apologize......here I am thinking I should listen to Apple, when in fact I should just listen to Defender2010 :D

After 3 iCloud restores....all had Music issues.

So this morning I plugged my iPad in.....set iTunes to backup through iTunes (with encryption to save all the passwords). Once I had a good backup, I restored the iPad through iTunes....and sure enough.....all music on the device is GONE :D

So thank you Defender2010.....next time I'll just listen to you.

Now, the real question is, why is an iCloud backup different? What is an iCloud backup doing to keep music on the device. The last restore I did was from an iCloud backup that pre-dated iTunes Match.

I wonder if Apple is trying to tie the iCloud backup with restoring music from iTunes? The last restore I did....I noticed right away on the iPad that it thought it had all my music....when in fact it didn't and iTunes didn't copy it.

In the past iTunes backups have always completely wiped music and videos.....I wonder why iCloud backups are trying to keep music?

Thanks again Defender2010!

You are welcome :) (perhaps its just a bug that will be fixed in the future. It's always good to try iTunes to solve issues should all else fall)
