I copied all the movies from the iTunes movies folder to an external and I might've messed up copying the iTunes .itl file. Anyway, what I have now is a total mess. When I opened the TV app some movie art was missing, the movie title and the movie didn't match, multiple copies of one movie under different names in short a total mess.
The movies on the external drive and in the time machine back up are okay. I ejected the time machine before I went on this adventure. I was wondering if I deleted all the movies in the iTunes movie folder to clear the HD of the movies and then deleted the iTunes folder to clear it all out then use time machine to restore the iTunes folder if that would bring it back to where it was before?
does that sound good, bad or another way.

example, The Witch is The Subjects and I have The Subjects with poster art.
whew  thanks for taking time to read this mess. Screen Shot 2021-07-08 at 7.14.17 PM.jpg

You mention iTunes which indicate an older system, and opposed to Apple TV but I would progress the same way regardless. First I would confirm I have good copies of all the files (movies) in a new folder, then I would close iTunes if open, and delete the media folder that you have iTunes pointed to (i.e. go to prefs, files, media folder location). Restart iTunes and it will create a new media folder. I would then copy the files into that folder or repoint the media folder to the folder you have the good movies in.

It's the Apple TV app but the folders state iTunes.

just out of curiosity could I delete the iTunes folder and use time machine's iTunes folder to restore?

I did trash iTunes on my internal drive. Used time machine to restore iTunes. When I opened Apple TV app, I got this

I went to the iTunes folder on the internal drive and clicked on .itl

it sent me back to the choose library screen? What am I doing wrong?

After much searching, I found a post on the Apple forum site that the Apple TV app keeps the library here

an old post on the apple forum site showed the way and again many thanks for your help.

Glad you got it resolved. I believe the iTunes folder (and library) is a legacy folder and no longer used (i.e. in your resolve case it was replaced by the TV Library). In terms of the choose or create library this normal as you can have multiple libraries. The program had a path to your library file which when you deleted the folder you deleted the path. Each program (Photos, Music, iMovie, Apple TV, etc) has its own library.

seems like all just looked to be normal. I wanted to open a movie and message stated movie can not be found would you like to locate, selected yes, navigated to the folder, opened the file and another message stated if I'd like to find all, selected yes and the screen began flashing for a few seconds then stopped. I seen it corrected all movies and posters. First time I ever saw that one. now all is good.
