iTunes video mp4s are not syncing

I have several mp4s that I work fine on my iPhone but refuse to sync on my iPad. Do iPad mp4s have to be in a specific format, and if so, what is the best utility for converting to that format? Thanks

I tried dragging an mp4 file earlier today and it worked fine. Looked nice on the pad too.
