i'm finding that i can't get itunes loud enough on my iPod headphones, i'm thinking the only way to fix this would be to batch all of my songs to +100 volume, then adjust it down as necessary on the regular volume slider... but i don't want to mess with all of my files, if there's a way to get itunes to play louder. does anyone know of a trick or app that increases the max system volume? In quicktime player, you used to be able to really crank movies way past normal by holding down "option" or something...

thx :)

For starters you could just set the EQ preamp to +12dB. I wouldn't recommend setting the individual ranges to the max though, since you'll be sacrificing control over the tone quality.

thank you for the reply. will setting the EQ preamp that high (or even as high as 6) affect my EQ settings otherwise? if not, that sounds exactly what i want.

Turning the preamp up might cause clipping (distortion). Is your system volume up all the way? It should be loud enough with both system and iTunes volume all the way up. One last resort would be to pick up some new headphones which have a high sensitivity (dB) rating. The higher the rating, the louder they'll play with the same input volume.

I just tested it out, and I'm surprised you'd need much more volume if the system and itunes volume are both at max, even with the ipod headphones...that said, if it's only a little boost you need, I still suggest playing with the preamp. I didn't experience too much clipping with it all the way to +12dB, but obviously only put it as far as you need and if you notice that the quality is degraded, drop it back to acceptable levels.

thanks guys, upping the preamp worked fine, didn't even go +12 rather +6. it gives me much better play in the iTunes volume bar. yes, the system is cranked, i wonder if it's the headphones-- i just noticed it around the time i got a new pair...

or maybe i'm just going deaf... i've already got some of the white hair to go along with it.... at 21..

have you checked the master volume slider in itunes?
have you checked the master volume slider for the system?
have you checked your hearing lately?
