I have a question about using iTunes with multiple users on Panther. My fiancé and I use the same iBook (fast user switch is amazing!). We burn CD’s to iTunes on our accounts. iTunes will not allow both users to open iTunes at the same time. Is there anyway to have access songs from each users iTunes even if only one of us is longed in. I want to avoid burning the same CD on both user accounts. Does anyone else have this problem? Thanks for the help

I agree

My girlfriend and I share the same problem. We both have our own accounts and we usually just always stay logged in. But if she goes off o work and I forget to quit iTunes or log out, she has to call me and ask for my password. Since my password is my last bit of personal freedom, and I don't rely want to share whats on my desktop, I am forced to change it all the time. This causes problems between us since she thinks we should shae everything and doesn't understand why I switch my passwords all the time. It's a bit annoying, thats all.

as noted you need to set the iTunes library (for each user) as one and the same file in a shared area (ie. Users > Shared for example). Also, you should check preferences and ensure "keep iTunes Library Organized" is NOT checked.

ok but

But will this work if we have different libraries. I like urban, she likes whoever...

This method combines libraries. So you'd have access to each others songs. This won't help if you don't close itunes before logging another user in. It just shares all song loaded into itunes for all users.

And why would that be? I have a computer set-up with about 7 users with the library file aliased to one in the shared folder. There isn't any problem with organizing files.
