i've seen that other people have had similar problems, but i am not able to play songs from my iphone when i'm on a second computer, such as my work computer

i've set itunes to not sync automatically

when i plug in to my work computer, all my iphone music files appear in light grey and won't play.

when i tell itunes to let me sync manually, i get a message that itunes will only allow the iphone to sync with one computer and my option is to clear all data and start again

What do i do?

That's to keep people from "stealing" music by transporting it from computer to computer with their ipods/iphones.

Just connect the phone to a set of speakers (either through a dock or directly plug them into the headphone jack) and play the music that way. If you want to transfer the music off the phone onto your work computer you are going to need some additional software to make that work.

i just want to play the music - not copy it - but through the computer (which has great speakers)

what software is there (for mac and for pc)?

I haven't seen a way to "stream" (play) music from your iPhone to another computer, short of unplugging the speakers from the computer and plugging them into your iPhone's headphone jack.

If you have a Mac, you can use the free program below to get around Apple's restriction of being able to copy music from your iPhone to that computer. I haven't seen a Windows program that does that.

thanks aristobrat,

that's a really helpful link/app!

I'd still love to figure out how to tell itunes to work with the phone though.
Anybody have any other thoughts.

Do you think it requires a crack of itunes?
