iPod itunes won't recognize ipod

so i have an ipod nano 5th gen and an ipod 4th gen. I restored both and it shows up on itunes than it asks me to set up ipod so I put the name and check the boxes, after that it disappears from itunes and disk utility but ipod is still detected on desktop awkward right? well can somebody help me please?

... if u have a pc..
go to my computer and see if your computer picks the idevice up. if not try another usb port or cable
