ACK!

AiBook 1.25 running Panther with 1G of RAM. I purchased the iLife package and it won't let me upgrade from iTunes 4.1 to iTunes 4.2.

Any ideas? Thanks.

How do you know?

Possible conflicts:
[ 1 ] Error message
[ 2 ] Hard Drive option in "Select A Destination" is dimmed
[ 3 ] Installer quits
[ 4 ] Installer locks up
[ 5 ] Installer installs 4.1, not 4.2
[ 6 ] Installer does not launch
[ 7 ] Other (explain)

Recommendations:
[ 1 ] Update to Mac OS X 10.3.2
[ 2 ] Drag the iTunes application out of your applications folder
[ 3 ] Drag the iTunes installer from iLife '04 to your desktop
[ 4 ] Install iTunes 4.2 from the installer you dragged to your desktop

OR...Grab iTunes 4.2 here and install from there.

This may sound stupid, but are you sure you don't already have iTunes 4.2? It was released on December 18, so it's possible that the reason it won't update is because you already have it.

You might supply some useful information about what happened. For a moment, I thought that my 74 y.o. father was posting here. :D

Do you have the latest versions of Panther and QuickTime?

More Details

Wow, sorry didn't mean to not provide enough info.

Latest and greatest Panther, QT, and all patches.

The version of iTunes I have is 4.1 (based on the "about" screen).

When I install iLife - the iTunes portion is dimmed. I've downloaded the latest version from apple, but it states that it won't let me upgrade.

In other words, if I do a custom install or a full install, iTunes will not update to 4.2.

It appears that this is not a common problem (or all of you GODS out there with HUGE EGO's would immediately know the answer). I'll probably take the advice of uninstalling iTunes (saving the data and index files) and then installing 4.2. If that doesn't work - I'll update this forum with additional info.

Thanks for the help.

-Special note for bousozoku: Most KNOWLEDGABLE users have the gift of insight - you sir, have no gift or insight. What you may have is KNOWLEDGE - but if you are the only one that can use it...

Well, put it this way, I'd rather know some things and work with others to know more - than to know everything and have no one to tell.

Resolved

Ack - what a strange issue.

I looked at my folder and I had a v3.x database file in there. When I deleted it (there was a v4 there and it was working fine), then everything when back to normal and the 4.2 version installed.

Weird - but fixed.

Thanks for the help.

Wild guesses and insight are two different things, sir.

If someone tells you "It didn't work, what do I do?", I'm sure you'll know the answer right away. :D

Sorry I bothered you--I won't do that again.

omg, relax! He was just trying to help man. I wouldn't be so picky if I were you.

"Don't bite the hand that feeds you!"

Not the intent...

The push back may have been a little harsh - I do appreciate the assistance - I don't post something unless I'm truly stuck. It was my error not to provide more info.
